Polypropylene (PP), Polyester (PET) & Steel Strapping Coils
At Globe Packaging we stock a wide array of polypropylene (PP) hand and machine strapping coils, polyester (PET) hand strapping coils, as well as steel strapping coils and accessories, all available at extremely competitive price-points, with next working day delivery on all orders placed by 4pm.
Strapping coils are available in various thicknesses and lengths, and have varying degrees of 'break strain' depending on the thickness of the strap.
What Strapping Do You Need & How Do You Use it?
Buying the right strapping for your business can appear very complex at first. However, it can be simplified as below:
Light-medium duty applications (generally for equally balanced pallets weighing up to 750kg, or parcels up to 30kg) – 12mm wide polypropylene (PP) hand strapping or 12mm wide polypropylene (PP) machine strapping.
Heavy duty applications (generally for unevenly balanced/weighted pallets, pallets weighing over 750kg, or parcels weighing over 30kg) - 16mm wide polyester (PET) strapping coils or steel strapping coils (available in 13mm, 16mm and 19mm widths).
Polypropylene (PP) Hand Strapping
Polypropylene (PP) hand strapping coils can either be used with hand strapping tools, friction weld tools, or can be used manually with strapping buckles. The strapping tools that are required/recommended are a tensioner, sealer and semi open metal seals. Alternatively, a combination tool can be used (which is a combination of a sealer and tensioner in one), alongside semi-open metal seals. Mobile strapping trolleys and strapping stands are also available to make the process easier, and to move the ‘kit’ around the warehouse or workspace without difficulty. If you are new to strapping, we would recommend looking at our range of a polypropylene hand strapping kits, which contain a choice of all these items.
Another option is to use friction weld strapping tools, which are a significantly faster but a more expensive solution. Friction weld strapping tools such as the RXT and ZXT do not require the use of seals, and significantly improve and ease and speed of strapping. Friction weld strapping tools can be used with polypropylene strapping or polyester (PET) strapping.
Polypropylene hand strapping is available in 12mm widths at Globe Packaging, in three different specifications representing the strength/brake strain of the coils.
Polypropylene (PP) Machine Strapping
Polypropylene machine strapping coils can be used with semi-automatic or fully-automatic pallet strapping machinery, such as the ES-101, ES-102, TMS300, TRS600 or AFS900, all of which are available for sale at Globe Packaging.
Using machine strapping ensures consistency in the tension being applied, as well as safe and secure sealing of the strap without the use of metal seals, and saves significantly on labour time/cost. Recommended for businesses that strap more than 25 parcels a day.
Polyester (PET) Strapping
Polyester (PET) strapping coils are used for heavy duty applications, often as an alternative to steel strapping. They offer better brake strains and tension/resistance than polypropylene strapping, and are significantly harder wearing as a result. Polyester (PET) hand strapping coils can either be used with PET hand strapping tools designed for this type of strapping (tensioner & sealer, or combination tool), alongside serrated metal seals, or alternatively with friction weld strapping tools. Polyester (PET) strapping is available in widths of 16mm at Globe Packaging, with all relevant tools for 16mm strapping also held in stock.
Steel Strapping
Steel strapping is the ultimate solution for strapping heavyweight or unevenly balanced items and pallets, and widely used in heavy duty industrial applications, as well as within the construction industry. Available in 13mm, 16mm and 19mm widths. Steel strapping coils should be used in conjunction with steel strapping tools (steel strapping tensioner/sealer or combination tool, as well as a steel strapping cutter tool) and snap on metal seals, all available at Globe Packaging. The use of tools naturally increases the tension the on the strapping making it more effective for use.
Friction Weld Strapping Tools
Friction weld strapping tools make strapping parcels and pallets significantly faster and easier than using manual hand strapping tools. Friction weld strapping tools such as the RXT and ZXT do not require the use of seals, and significantly improve and ease and speed of strapping. These tools can be used with both polypropylene (PP) hand strapping coils as well as Polyester (PET) hand strapping coils.
What Does Break Strain Mean?
The brake strain on a strapping coil is the maximum pressure point on the box/pallet under which the strap can withhold the appropriate weight without snapping.
