Machine Pallet Stetch Wrap Film – Clear Versions (150% Stretch & 250% Stretch Capacities)
Here at Globe Packaging we stock a wide selection of machine pallet stretch wrap, available in numerous specifications, duties (thicknesses) and sizes. You will find a selection of standard 150% stretch machine pallet wrap films, as well as a selection of power-pre films with a 250% stretch capacity.
In the section above, you will find clear machine pallet wrap film available in both standard 150% stretch capacity, as well as power-pre 250% stretch capacity. Both options are available in a multitude of thicknesses (choose between 17mu, 20mu or 23mu thickness). The price of power-pre machine stretch wrap with a 250% capacity is more than the price of standard machine stretch wrap with a 150% capacity, however power-pre stretch wrap can only be used effectively with certain machinery compatible to take this (ie. where the machine is able to stretch the film by up to 250%). All rolls of machine pallet stretch wrap film are 16kg in weight. The length of the roll depends on the thickness of the film you opt for:
Machine pallet wrap film rolls with 20mu Thickness – Width 500mm, Length 1600M, roll weight 16kg.
Machine pallet wrap film rolls with 23mu Thickness – Width 500mm, Length 1400M, roll weight 16kg.
What Stretch Capacity Of Machine Pallet Wrap Do You Need?
One of the most common questions is the type of machine pallet wrap that is needed by a business/operation. It can be extremely confusing, especially if the ordering of the product is moved to a different person or department within an organisation, or if you are looking to change product or thickness.
The simple answer to the above question is that it depends on the type of pallet wrap machinery you are using in your business/operation. The stretch capacity of film is the maximum % capacity that the film can stretch to, during its wrapping cycle on the machine, to maximise the meterage from the roll (eg. Using the machine at a setting of 150% stretch capacity can theoretically make each metre of film stretch to 1.5 metres, assuming the film has 150% stretch capacity). Certain machinery (usually entry-level) is only designed to work with standard 150% capacity stretch film, whilst other machinery (usually higher end) is designed to work with power-pre stretch film that has a stretch capacity of 250% or more. The settings applied to your machine will then determine which stretch capacity you need.
The most common issue we see is the wrong type of machine pallet wrap being used, which can then lead to problems with your machine or wrapping. If you have a pallet wrap machine that is compatible with a 250% capacity stretch film and is set to stretch the film to this, but you use a 150% capacity stretch film with that machine, the film will naturally break and tear during its wrapping cycle. On the converse, if you use a 250% capacity stretch film on a 150% capacity machine, nothing will theoretically ‘go wrong’, but the stretch capacity is wasted (as a 250% stretch capacity film costs more than a 150% stretch capacity film).
What is the benefit of using a Power-Pre 250% Stretch Capacity Film
Simple – a 250% stretch capacity means it can stretch by up to 250% of the length of the roll, whereas a 150% stretch capacity means it can only stretch by up to 150% of the length of the roll. For each metre of film, a 250% capacity stretch film can stretch to a maximum of 2.5 metres, whereas a 150% capacity stretch film can only stretch it to a maximum of 1.5 metres.
For operations that wrap more than 30 pallets a day, we always recommend using power-pre machine pallet wrap film with a 250% stretch capacity. The price of pallet wrap machinery with a 250% capacity stretch film is significantly higher than machines that take a 150% capacity stretch film, hence its only worth the additional capital expenditure if your business wraps more than 30 pallets a day on average. You then generally will make the difference back in film / consumable savings over a 12 month period, due to the additional stretch generated on the film. However, be careful, you need to ensure your machine can be set to stretch it to 250%. Entry level machinery usually cannot do so, hence it depends on the machine you have.
